I don't agree with all of Mamdani's policies now that I've looked into them more (tho I do with most), but centering *everyone* matters and "that we have a responsibility to help each other", that's a soapbox I stand on *constantly*

Broader US culture could take a note from Cherokee people on food, it's so important

So much in Cherokee culture revolves around food & hospitality is big. An important concept for Cherokee is SSY (gadugi) or like working together for the greater good, and it's based on the word for bread SS (gadu)

I was a hungry kid. I often went without school lunch because I didn't have the money.

I later moved to Oklahoma and attended school on native land. Guess what the Cherokee did? They fed every kid with no questions asked. I was able to learn with a full belly with no shameful stigma attached.

Cherokee word of the day: SSY (gadugi)

It means working together for the common good, which is of course not a unique concept, but has a much higher importance in Cherokee culture than in American culture, you could say it's central

There are people in power who should be doing better are not. That sucks. But it's what *is*

Anyone with an ability to make even a small positive impact has a responsibility to do so, even if those in positions of power aren't fulfilling their responsibilities

People throw around the word "treason" a lot, but it's actually a _specific_ term in the American context; it's the only crime actually defined in our Constitution...

...but Will is right that this is one of the rare cases that is legitimately treason under the specific constitutional definition

Article III Section 3 of the US Constitution:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted.

I just wish "mentally ill" wasn't commonly slung as a slur. "You... call people... mentally ill, and worse". Having an illness should not be considered "bad"! If so this issue disappears lol
