Fascinating study, this. Raising teacher awareness of published research evidence is clearly vital alongside (not instead of) supporting teachers to themselves be reflective practitioners themselves. This paragraph sums up my own feelings about the dangers of an over-reliance on discovery learning.

New data out today shows 5.3% EHCP and 14.2% SEN Support.

There are good news stories behind this increase - better identification in schools, improvements in medical science, greater awareness of neurodivergence. That’s not the whole picture, but is an important part of it.

Credit to Hinchingbrooke school for this message, sent (via feeder schools) to the cohort joining them in September.

Got a child transitioning from one setting to another this September? I wonder what people think about the questions here, which I’ve taken from The Parent’s Guide to SEND. They’re designed to support positive parent-school collaboration. Reposts welcome.

Hope it’s not too self-indulgent (it is) to share a few reviews of The Parent’s Guide to SEND since it came out last month. Delighted some families are finding it a useful way to navigate what is a complex system for many.

It’s out! Thank you all for your support of the book.

To the many parent contributions within the book and to all those thinking of spending a few quid buying it, we’re grateful.

Happy reading all - we hope it provides practical, positive support.

Incredibly proud of my wife’s first ever half marathon today. A great event and a great achievement. And most importantly, some money raised for the excellent ⁦‪@ArthurRankHouse‬⁩ hospice. Link below if you have a few pounds to spare.

Found time for a quick run around the Bernabeu before spending time with the inspirational Carmen Pelicier and the Trilema Foundation in Madrid. Absolute pleasure to visit their schools and talk to their Principals.

Had the pleasure of speaking to hundreds of committed and passionate SEND Leaders at Norwich City’s Carrow Road today. I think it went well, apart from me opening with ‘Let’s be having you’ 😂

Couldn’t be happier for this school. Incredibly well-deserved. This happy, inclusive school is relentless in its ambition for all pupils, with the support in place to make those high expectations a reality. Enormous congratulations ⁦‪to all involved

On my way to the book launch of ⁦‪@NataliePacker‬⁩ and ⁦‪@DavidBartram_‬⁩’s excellent Beyond Boundaries: Leading Great Provision across a Trust. Lovely to see reference to the ⁦‪@WholeEducation‬⁩ SEND Leadership network throughout. Looking forward to seeing some wonderful people there

I spent this morning slipping and limping my way through a trail marathon in the pouring rain, in the same week my brother-in-law lost his lovely dad to bowel cancer. Grateful if anyone might spare a few quid for Bowel Cancer UK. Thank you
