The most annoying side effect of this I've found is that we have no scripting way of checking whether certain items are the same, such as tipped arrows, beds and potions since their sub-data isn't exposed to us.

The advantage of generators though is you don't need to store the state of ongoing variables. But it's harder to tell when it's finished because system.runJob() doesn't have a .then :(

I've used JS generators in the past to do this, they work for some tasks, but in others they still trigger watchdog if the task is more complex. I've more recently taken to using Date.now() to allow a script to loop up to 2 milliseconds after its start time and then stop which works well.

Yeah sadly objects can't be compared without iteration in Javscript. Items are also affected by that

I've always struggled with this. Best solution I've found is to animate the rotation based on the camera queries, but then it appears wrong for other players in a multiplayer setting

That trilogy is one of my favourite sci-fi books I've read, and it's very frustrating that you basically can't explain to anyone what it's about or why it's good without spoiling the first book :'D
