A few years ago, I found a Doom Dreamcast prototype source code in a Katana dev kit. Built with Windows CE in 2000 and using DC peripherals like the VMU, it was created as a programming exercise. Try it below:

Today I’m sharing a U.S. Jet Set Radio Dreamcast prototype from Oct 6, 2000, just 4 days after the final build. Differences are minimal, mainly in the IP.BIN. Download link is at the bottom of this page with a pink “NEW” tag👇

Do you know why SEGA decided to close No Cliché rather than sell the studio?

Because SEGA wanted to retain the intellectual property rights to Toy Commander. By selling it, SEGA would have had to sell the IP.

Unreleased games that were never announced or never found a publisher are often the most fascinating. They frequently feature original concepts or unique art direction. Sadly, they draw little attention, since most people only look for big names like Soul Reaver 2 on Dreamcast

Do you remember Stunt Driver PC. The game that included a track editor?

A version of that 1990 Hit was running on the first Xbox as a kind of tech demo. I believe the graphics were improved. It was a programmer’s practice project, a exercise to get familiar with the hardware.

Half-Life Dreamcast isn’t the only known official prototype on CD-R. Agartha and Chakan for Dreamcast also exist on CD-Rs. Without being able to state it explicitly, one studio reportedly used CD-Rs for beta testing their games to avoid dealing with the Disc System 2 and the red GD-Rs!

Did you know?

Half-Life Dreamcast was canceled at the last minute — printed manuals and covers already existed, and the devs burned a CD-R prototype using the remaining official packaging to celebrate the end of development. 👇

I have absolutely everything — the complete source code archive, the web sources, the assets, the tools — basically the original developers’ working environment — to add new content to a Dreamcast game. That would be a first! Or even port it to Unreal Engine!

Did you know?

Looking Glass Studios was in talks with SEGA to develop a new Shinobi game for the Dreamcast before the Overworks version that was ultimately released on the PS2. The American studio had a story, some artwork, and a rendered intro video (but no playable build).

Is it a coincidence to find a .TXT file with the name of the Dreamcast game executable (1STREAD) inside a folder called DUMMY in a Shinobi PlayStation 2 prototype?

I’ll resume the releases (I don’t like that word) next month, or perhaps in April. Although I still have many, many things to show, a break was necessary after the articles devoted to Visual Concepts, which you can find on this page:

In the 1990s, some print video-game journalists wrote under pseudonyms while openly working for publishers or console manufacturers, using their articles to build hype for games they later planned to negotiate or release themselves.

I’m able, though not 100% certain yet, to say that we’ve given incorrect build dates for all the known Geist Force Dreamcast prototypes. Everything would need to be redone from scratch for this game, but it’s impossible to rely on file modification dates or the IP.BIN to date them.
January 30, 2026 at 4:08 PM
When some members of the Assembler forum released Geist Force at the beginning of 2010, what modifications did they make to the game’s ISO?

European Dreamcast Memory Card (VMU/VMS): Unreleased Packaging

Sega Europe used them as a reference for the European design layout. However, as they were not deemed high-quality or attractive enough for the European market, a new, dedicated cardboard box packaging was created

One new video of the airport level from Take The Bullet on Dreamcast. An unplayable, render-only level that hints at the game’s potential if it hadn’t been canceled. More of the game’s secrets coming soon in one or more upcoming articles dedicated to this FPS and its prototypes!

The cinematic that plays before reaching the title screen of Take the Bullet is a montage made up of a large number of live-action photographs. In fact, it took four months to complete.

Below is a photo from the shoot with the actress, without any alterations — possibly even raw shots…
