The only voters this suggestion could ever appeal to is Lib Dem voters.
This is probably a crazy idea, but wouldn't it be better to react to the *actual* budget, rather than to every leak and piece of speculation in the months beforehand?

And yet, Labour could remain in government until at least 2029
This is a shift but it’s still a very vague one. It doesn’t explicitly rule out removing people with ILR based on a retrospective change to the rules. Apart from the general chaos, it’s quite something to leave so many UK residents in limbo pending a “review”.

The mad part is that the ‘51%’ metric originates directly from the very report seeking to “track the levels of representation & quality of portrayal in UK TV advertising”.
A metric subsequently reported by multiple press outlets, whipped up the right, conflated by Pochin, and misrepresented by Grok

I guess what is going on here is that the Bill was merely an act of political theatre + optics. So that, when the bill was rejected, the Conservatives would say that it was not their fault that the people who came to Britain in 2019-24 under the Johnson/Sunak governments had been able to stay
