It came before the breakup! It turned into a fight- I didn’t find the gesture romantic (I’m aro for the most part) and pointed out that he would have it on him -visible- if we ever broke up.
I think the difference in sentimentality of the tattoo itself was an issue. I didn’t have any, he did.

I’ve had someone surprise me with getting tatted with my (self designed) tattoo. I’m very curious what he’s done post relationship with it, because the sentimentality for that action was one-sided.
