#FirstGen computational materials #scientist, microscopist & electrical engineer. Head of Research at ExoMatter GmbH.

Just another human trying to do his part on this world.

Scientist in industry.
The new commercial ad from Bild (the German, right-leaning press) has the slogan “Kauf kein kack” on it. Yes, “KKK”.

They just don’t even care to pretend anymore.

There are great conferences and science in the US, but with the way things are right now, it’s too risky to attend.
Australian academics refuse to attend US conferences for fear of being detained

“Soft” skills are not soft at all. They’re probably among the most important ones. It doesn’t matter how many titles you have or how smart you are, if don’t know how to communicate.

Grad schools should emphasize on said skills more.

Also, allow them to go to conferences, encourage them to present their ideas and develop their narrative and rhetoric skills. It’s so badly needed and so difficult to find…
Dear supervisors. Please remember that one of the worst damages you can do to your (PhD) students is writing their manuscript for them. Academia and Industry need professionals able to communicate and convey ideas clearly and effectively. Don’t hinder your mentee’s future. 😊

💥 Costco, Apple and John Deere shareholders have rejected anti-DEI proposals brought by nonprofit National Center for Public Policy Research.

In yesterday's shareholders meeting at Apple and today at Deere, director from the NCPPR said, 'DEI is out, merit is in.'

Shareholders: DEI is in.

I don’t know if it is something at all, but do we talk about the social pressure we introverts experience when people ask about “your plans” or give you condescendence when you didn’t do anything on the weekend?
Sometimes we just appreciate and enjoy staying in. 😬

Vibrational anharmonicity enables great optoelectronics in halide #perovskites. But that’s not the whole story: it must couple with appropriate chemical bonding. This is essential for compositional design. Have a look ⬇️

By comparing CsSrBr3 and CsPbBr3 with close structural similarity but the latter lacking lone-pair electrons on the octahedral metal, the authors reveal the similar vibrational anharmonicities in the ...

Doing research in industry is kind of fun: Interesting (and real-life problems) topics, clear rules about overtime, less (racial/gender/socioeconomic/political) bias (🙊) and yes, more money.

A pleasant surprise.
