It's fascinating that the LA Department of Planning is the one coming up with all this, and recommending that politicians adopt it.

Most city planners are quite interested in TOD, often being the reason they took up the profession. But LA's planning department is rotten at the top.

I think it was @marcishore.bsky.social's book The Ukrainian Night which first showed me how Euromaidan was about the Kantian sense of dignity, that "that which does not have a price, which cannot be bought or sold."

Ever since reading that book, I see it as the best case path for the US as well.

Individual stories by individual reporters, sure, fine. But the overall editorial selection intends to paint a picture that does not match what I get from other outlets or from Ukrainians.

I wouldn't start today! Here's all I can find online. Maybe the print editors are better

This is in the US, by the way. The "elite" media has completely given up on reporting. Smaller scale media can be more accurate.

No, the news is about Pokrovsk, refinery attacks, or at sites like the NYTimes about Zelenskyy & corruption and villages without draft-age men (their biases are clear).

I only know because of social media, and this morning my Ukrainian teacher in Kharkiv says it's been 4-5 days without heat.

That's fascinating, because in the US school children use Antidisestablishmentarianism in a similar way to Непротивоконституционствувателствувайте

I feel the need to defend the honor of the GTF format. I'd consider it the Python to the Perl of GFF. (Disclaimer: I was an undergrad in the lab when it was being defined, but didn't have anything to do with it except as a user)

It may be our biggest moment yet. Huge mandate for us from here on out.

The Bay Area anti-YIMBY movement has been especially strident in attempting to portray many non-YIMBY views as being at the core of YIMBY-ism, e.g. libertarianism or something else incompatible with most Bay Area folks. I can't tell if it's earnest belief or posturing. Maybe Kim Mai-Cutler knows.

Don't hear that because it's not true. Water usage has dropped as population grows. Replacing inefficient infrastructure with water efficient housing is a much bigger effect. Here's my city, typical of every city I've examined: andthewest.stanford.edu/wp-content/u...

Dare I ask which city "planned" this?

I'm fairly discouraged by how little the IRA was able to do this, even while raising the wages across entire towns. How can you get through to people who are so against you that even mentioning the IRA could be bad for the factory? www.volts.wtf/p/how-is-new...

I really like what I'm reading in that thread, but have you ever considered becoming *more* of a lunatic?
