Once described as "not nearly as serious as they first seem." Accurate. Not the sandwich-throwing one.
"Well why shouldn't we have a referendum question on whether to jail the leader of the opposition? Is a referendum question not the purist form of democracy?"
Years ago, I warned that Danielle Smith would run out of enemies in political realm and turn her sights on the courts.

Her latest attacks aren't some high-minded philosophical critique of judicial supremacy.

They're pure populist pablum, specially crafted to remove yet another check on her power.

Again: Steering public dollars to private religious schools has always been the #1 goal of @GovBillLee and his fellow privatizers.

(His pal Betsy Devos, who has funded much of the war on public schools, called it “Advancing God’s Kingdom”)

I called, *exactly* this back in 2019 when the UCP were gunning (pun intended) for a "rural police auxiliary"

The wording of the federal firearms act though, requires a peace officer to be "on duty"

The UCP though could try to say they won't enforce the act.
In what was easily the most bizarre moment on "Your Province, Your Premier"...

A caller argued that Smith could legally reintroduce handguns for Albertans if they just made everyone deputies

Smith's response?

Hey! That COULD cut down on response times!

UCP all clamoring for the Biggest Jackass award. Maybe FIFA can oblige.

Legal counsel: "you can't just ban 'progressive'; it'll be overturned"
UCP: "... if we ban a word from each party, we can claim we are being fair to everyone and this isn't just to save our butts and Albertans will definitely fall for it?"
Anyways…

Here’s the list of the UCP’s “Highlander” list of banned political party names for party’s going forward…

The Orbánization is truly astounding.

The education critic? Bold move, Cotton.

This actually great for the NDP, because the NDP can contrast by modelling confidence in their support and in the democratic process.
4 new recalls!

Including an NDP MLA!

If Smith votes for legislation that impacted her own recall, is that a Conflict of Interest under the COIA?

Depends:
Former AB Ethics Commish likely would say no.
Former Federal Ethics Commissioner Dion likely would say yes (SNC Lav)

Can a political interest be a personal interest?

I like how our health care system is so messed up we have multiple health ministers and no one can really distinguish what the difference is so we just refer to them as "one of many"
BREAKING: Matt Jones, one of Alberta's health ministers, just said the private surgical facilities for Red Deer and Lethbridge have been cancelled. Those two projects are owned in part by Sam Mraiche.

The supremely competent /s Alberta Education wrote a Grade 6 Math Provincial Achievement Test so messed up last year that they had to curve the results hard. To achieve an "Excellent" you only needed 69%.

Theme of the week is the David Frum quote:
