It is curious how exercised the Advocate General was about this case compared with his relatively passive reaction to Ballyseedy and the summary executions in 1922-23. It looks as if O'Daly's mistake was to cross a line by targeting middle class ladies?

The restaurant lobby as such has no clout. There was downward pressure on restaurant RENTS (because they were unsustainable). Commercial landlords (and their banks) risked getting badly burned and the State steps in with generous corporate welfare. Best budget ever for commercial property interests.
