Exactly. I served in Peace Corps and AmeriCorps for 5 years then became a staff member of a program. We got reinstated. But the message is that these people came for us, our communities, and the work we were doing. For no reason. They just wanted to hurt folks. Never forget.

This in turn stifles reform that are popular for the majority of the nation, creating both a real situation as well as a perception that government is not responsive. This allows populist demagogues to rise up - like Trump. We need to work out better systems to create representative government.

Good article. I agree with a caveat - it has held up but the need for us to move beyond it is still there. For every $1 spent lobbying Congress on behalf of workers, $100 is spent lobbying for big business, therefore corrupting the political process and subverting the will of the people.
