Did you know that in the 19th century, people had to pay to receive mail instead of paying to send it? 📬

Take a look inside McCaw’s Jewelry Store, 1890 💎

L-R: Robert Bruce, hardware store owner; W. H. McCaw, bearded man behind counter; Mr. Ash, watch repair man in front of stairs; Emma McCaw; Mabel McCaw.

If you've been to the museum recently, the cases on the left should look very familiar!

The interior of Purdy's Store in Port Perry from 1910, which sold produce and grocery goods. The selection of groceries was a lot less than what we have now.

E. H. Purdy, behind counter, is serving Joseph Raines and his dog, Sandy.

Does this artifact look familiar - maybe from a popular kid’s movie? 🥶

This tool was used to pick up larger pieces of ice cut from frozen lake water. They can be seen at the beginning of the movie Frozen. We love when a movie can relate to the history at our museum!

Let's look back on the Ontario Carriage Works on Perry St. Before cars, this was the mechanics shop! Horse drawn carriages and buggies were the norm for travelling in the late 1800s.

This building was originally constructed in 1884, and is now the home of Old Flame Brewing Co.
