🤝 This week SCR concluded Block 1 of our capacity development programme with 🇱🇻 Latvia, which will join the #UNSC in 2026-27.

In NY, sessions covered Council dynamics, procedures, Charter tools (Chs VI+VII), plus ME issues incl. MEPQ, Syria, Lebanon & Yemen.

Our ED Shamala Kandiah Thompson attended the Alpbach 2025 Retreat (Austrian MFA), speaking on UN & regional roles in conflict response and on the future role of multilateral orgs in hotspots. She also joined the #EFA2025 opening with Austria’s FM & the Forum board.

🔵 Yesterday (25 Aug), SCR hosted a roundtable on UNSC resolution 2719.

The discussion explored lessons from the Council’s talks on financing AUSSOM and implications for future UN-AU peace support operations.

Today, the #UNSC failed to adopt a draft resolution on the war in #Gaza calling for a ceasefire and the release of all hostages. Proposed by the 10 elected members, it was vetoed by the #US, with the other 14 members voting in favor.
