Birding, wildlife photos, cycling, nature conservation, "dangerously liberal", Scottish independence, woke lefty?, Aberdeen FC fan. My own thoughts - like it or lump it 🙂
3 White-rumped and 1 Pec Sand at Myroe Levels, Co. Londonderry this afternoon #RareBirdsUK

At last, managed a Monterey Bay pelagic 🙂 It was as superb as I'd hoped for. Great birding - shearwaters, petrels, jaegers/skuas and auklets, while the Humpback Whales were magnificent #birds #birding #California

A long sunny walk in Angus yesterday - good numbers of raptors, in an area notorious for their persecution. Maybe grouse shoot licensing is delivering already...🤞🤞🤞 #BirdingScotland #RaptorResearch

It was great to spend a couple of hours @rspbni.bsky.social Portmore Lough reserve yesterday evening, just watching the Common Terns doing their thing 🙂 #UKbirding #Birds

A trip to a wet & windy Monikie Country Park yesterday to see the fabulous White-winged Black Tern. It never came close, and the light was dire, but a stunning-looking bird anyway #BirdingScotland

Acrid smoke billowing across the A9 & down the glen as you head towards Drumochter Pass. All so a few folk can blast some hapless grouse out of the sky. What a f*cked up way to treat the environment during a climate emergency! @raptorpersuk.bsky.social @wildjustice.bsky.social

Fabulous spring sunshine @rspb.bsky.social Leighton Moss reserve on Saturday. The booming Bitterns stayed hidden in the reeds, but the Marsh Harriers and Avocets were much more visible #Birding #Birds

Some sunshine this weekend, for a change! A few pictures from @rspbscotland.bsky.social Loch Leven reserve and surrounds #BirdingScotland

Little Egrets were almost unheard of in Scotland when I started birding (in the 1970's 🫤), but now are pretty regular on the coast, and even inland in some places. Spent a pleasant hour photographing this one on the River Leven, just downstream from the loch, this afternoon #BirdingScotland

At least 20 Russian White-fronted Geese still with ~ 200 Greylags in fields by the west (Kelty) entrance to Lochore Meadows CP this afternoon #BirdingFife
February 1, 2025 at 9:05 PM
Finally caught up with the Great White Egret at Lochore Meadows Country Park this morning - it was roosting in trees opposite the hide overlooking the small loch at the west (Kelty) end of the park #BirdingFife

Very brief views of Kingfisher and Otter were the highlights of a walk along the River Leven at Findatie this afternoon, but 6 Little Egrets along the same stretch of water added some brightness to a very overcast afternoon. And nice to see Pochards close in on the loch 🙂 #BirdingScotand
