A really cool touch: a half hour before the curtain went up, several of the cast were on stage, having an impromptu jam session, doing Irish standards and such. Lovely evening at the theatre. 🎭 🙂

The cast all sang and most of them proved to be multi instrumentalists as well (accordion, bass, cello, guitar, mandolin, percussion, piano, squeezebox, ukulele, violin).

This troupe has been doing it out in Durham every October for quite a few years now, and if rehearsals are any indication, it’s gonna be an uproariously good time, with all the naughtiness, all the joy, all the yelling about missing necks that you know and love!

More recently, I wrote a song called “Lili St. Cyr,” about one such Rocky Kid who grows older and sadder (like most of my characters do, natch). Which is all to say that I was thrilled when @lrodrigu75 asked me to play piano in the band for this here production of the stage show.

I worked at the theatre for several years, catching and working many a screening. We called regular attendees & performers “Rocky Kids” and they were such a staple of the Five Points scene that they made appearances in Goner songs I wrote.
