Hi👋🌹Labour Party Councillor for Great Harwood in Hyndburn, Lancashire. Cabinet Member for Business and Growth. Fabian and Coop Party member. CIHCM #ukhousing 🐝🌹🇪🇺 Views my own etc. @uklabour
Their rallies were violent. Their slogans were hateful. Their legacy? Shameful

So when a modern political party chooses black shirts as its uniform — in a climate of rising nationalism, anti-migrant rhetoric, and culture war politics — it’s not just provocative. It’s dangerous.

They marched through Jewish neighbourhoods. They beat up trade unionists. They disrupted elections and glorified racial purity. They wanted to dismantle democracy and replace it with dictatorship.

In the 1930s, Britain’s Blackshirts weren’t a football team. They were Oswald Mosley’s fascist militia — a uniformed mob that idolised Hitler and Mussolini, copied their salutes, and called for a one-party state.

I think she's been absolutely brilliant and great to see her through to next week.

💪 We won't be shaken. We won't be poisoned. We stand firm against fracking and its dangers. Fracking isn't welcome here in Lancashire.. Not now. Not ever. ❌

This vote wasn’t just a rejection of a motion. It was a rejection of Lancashire’s voice, safety, and future.

📢 We deserve better. We deserve cllrs who listen, who lead, and who protect—not parties chasing outdated, dangerous myths to make profits for billion pound companies and corporations. 🧵5

‼️ The science is settled. Fracking risks:

🌍 Earth tremors and structural damage
💧 Toxic water pollution
🌫️ Airborne pollutants and noise
🚛 Heavy traffic and land degradation
📉 Zero meaningful impact on bills or jobs 🧵4

🏭 Shale gas sits under much of Lancashire, including Hyndburn and the east of the county. It seems clear that Reform's long-term goal is to turn Lancashire's beautiful 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝘀 for Reform UK's billionaire, big business paymasters. 🧵3

👎 At yesterday’s Lancashire County Council Full Council meeting, Reform UK councillors voted down a motion calling for a permanent ban on fracking across Lancashire. That’s right—the party of “drill baby drill” chose corporate profits over community safety.🧵2

✅ We want libraries that are visible, vibrant, and valued. Not diluted. Not dismantled.

🚚 And not driven off in a van.

🌹 Lancashire deserves better.

🕳️ Reform UK might be comfortable with hollowed-out services and disappearing public spaces. I'm not—and neither are the people of Lancashire.

👀 We want libraries that are visible, vibrant, and valued. Not tucked away in a corner. Not diluted. Not dismantled. 🧵3

❤️ Libraries aren’t a luxury—they’re lifelines. They’re warm spaces, places of learning, imagination, and connection. You don’t build community by shoving books into a back room or sending a van round twice a month. 🧵2

They're asked to smile, participate, adapt, and show gratitude-while the rest of society rarely reflects on its own biases, barriers, or responsibilities.

It's something I've always thought about a lot of "community cohesion" projects. Too often, projects meant to "bring people together" end up placing the burden on immigrant communities to prove they belong.
