10. Matt Flynn – 3 years, $20.5M ($9M guaranteed) (2012, Seattle)

Classic case of overpaying for a one-game wonder.

Threw 6 TDs in a meaningless Week 17 game for the Packers. Signed by Seattle, then promptly got beat out in training camp by a 3rd-round rookie…

Russell Wilson.

9. Sam Bradford – 6 years, $78M ($50M guaranteed) (2010, St. Louis)

The last of the pre-CBA rookie jackpots.

Never played a full season. Glass knees. Played for 4 teams in 5 years.

Made over $130M in his career. Went 34-48-1 to show for it.

But he did run down a DB once:👇

8. Le’Veon Bell – 4 years, $52.5M ($35M guaranteed) (2019, Jets)

He sat out a season with the Steelers to *not* get hurt.

Got paid by the Jets and fell off immediately.
Adam Gase never wanted him.

He averaged 3.2 YPC, scored 4 TDs, and was cut after 17 games.

7. Nick Foles – 4 years, $88M ($50M guaranteed) (2019, Jacksonville)

• Signed for his Super Bowl magic
• Broke his collarbone in Week 1
• Replaced by Gardner Minshew
• Benched at halftime his 3rd game back
• Played 4 games

Eventually traded for a 4th-rd pick and a shrug.

6. Carson Wentz – 4 years, $128M ($107M guaranteed) (2019, Philly)

After one MVP-caliber year (that ended in injury), the Eagles locked him in.

Two years later, he was benched for Jalen Hurts.

They traded him and ate $33.8M in dead cap (a record at the time).

5. Jared Goff – 4 years, $134M ($110M guaranteed) (2019, Rams)

Signed months before they had to. Sean McVay looked at the decision and said, “nah.”

Rams included a 1st-round pick (!) just to get Detroit to take him.

McVay upgraded to Stafford.

Immediately won a Super Bowl.

4. Todd Gurley – 4 years, $60M ($45M guaranteed) (2018, Rams)

At the time, highest-paid RB ever.

A year later? Arthritic knees. His usage dropped off a cliff, and he was out of the league by age 26.

Rams still ate massive dead cap just to move on.

3. Russell Wilson – 5 years, $245M ($165M guaranteed) (2022, Denver)

The Broncos gave Wilson the bag *before* he took a snap.

And then spent a year watching “Let’s Ride” memes instead of touchdowns.

They paid $85M to cut him.
