Yup. But they can't make it to the front page.

No. The porn-dimension only tangentially intersects reality.

To be clear, engaging is important. YIMBYism exists in the first place because supporters engaged and argued and convinced others to join their cause.

If NIMBY stuff is the core of what they do, then there's no reason for YIMBY funders to back them. If NIMBY stuff *isn't* the core of what they do, then it's plausible that funding threats might cause them to give it up.

Either way, we can continue "listening and engaging" while funders do that.

Given that NIMBY activism is not the core of these groups it seems really plausible to me that slight pressure from funders would convince them to cut out the counter-productive NIMBY stuff in favor of focussing on their core competencies.

NIMBYing housing construction is not what built that community trust. Given how the more wealthy skew NIMBY, it seems just as likely to me that the NIMBY stuff is just peripheral side activism coming from a handful of people in the leadership of these groups.

I mean, it does look like they removed to topsoil during excavation.

Alternatively, one can recognize that the strategy of engaging and listening does not conflict with the strategy of attacking financial support structures. If anything, they compliment each other.
November 27, 2025 at 4:38 PM
I think it's fundamentally incorrect to think that "engaging" and "listening" is the right way to change people's minds here. These beliefs have *structural* roots and it can't be changed without changing the structures that support them. Structures like: money coming from funders.

The ability to world-model doesn't mean you can world-model as well as a human. Obviously LLMs are still way underpowered compared to humans (in terms of network size). This is precisely the behavior we should expect of such a thing.

There's got to be a good way to make this joke but as you can see: I have not yet found it.

"Euphemism treadmill? Hey everyone, check out this asshole over here doesn't know we call that shibboleth generators now!"
Where there is a group people are yearning to be a part of, Shibboleth generators will be there.
