This led me to interrogate more deeply how domestic cats, which are inextricably tied to complex social-ecological elements, are influenced behaviorally in ways that might function beyond explicit ecological components. This is, after all, a highly popular companion animal tied to human society!

Cats are interesting though as a non-native species, in that we not only facilitate their behavior and welfare in many ways unseen in other invasive organisms, but also because they are not influenced by anthropogenic variables in the same way native wildlife is around us, which piqued my curiosity.

However, things can become complicated when you introduce anthropogenic stressors (e.g., human presence) that can disrupt the diel activity of wildlife forcing them to augment their behavior in strategic ways to avoid conflict while simultaneously increasing interspecific interactions. Yikes!

Within ecology, the realm of time is a fascinating axis where behavior can occur in discrete and novel manners. Animals will access this niche by adjusting their temporal patterns to maintain community stability, thereby reducing collisions with competitors and facilitating coexistence.

Yeah it’s frustrating, I feel like the DNC as a whole has been alienating so many people who are vulnerable.
