Lots of Red Kite locally and we're miles from any of the reintro/feeding sites...but we do have a dump, which they and thousands of gulls love

The Starlings are gathering locally and doing their thing, murmurating to confuse raptors. About 12000 of them in this flock, hoping to see numbers up in the hundreds of thousands again by March/April.

Narrated video and extended transcript on my site #UKBirding

Apparently, there's a Razorbill on our patch, it was flushed on the River Nene by a boat and headed south towards us. It's a species you normally expect to see coastally, not this far inland. Here's one I snapped on a trip to Anglesey #UKBirding

Who doesn't love a starling murmuration? There was a good flock of 10-12000 over RSPB Ouse Fen, Earith. It was after sunset, not a lot of light in the sky #UKBirding

There's a Peregrine above the flock in this photo. The presence of a Peregrine or another raptor being the reason starlings do this

Worst weather for wildlife photography, windy, dull, and very wet, and while there may be hundreds of Whooper Swans #UKBIrding locally, I'm going to stay dry and decorate the Xmas tree instead

Also, lit up briefly last night #teamMoth 1x LBAM #NoWogan

I've got Xmas songs to arrange too for a gig

I bought Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody before it became the 1973 Christmas number one, that's how old I am! It cost 32.5p in Woolies in Whitley Bay, that was a lot of pocket money back then...

It's idiotic that banks, comms companies, and anybody else send out scam-warning emails with embedded links!

The fundamental message should be:

DO NOT CLICK LINKS IN EMAILS

Oh wow, was searching for Sabbath's "Killing yourself to live" on Youtube and the site popped up a message from The Samaritans...

It's BandCamp Friday again, so if you buy my greatest "hits" album today, I get all the money, BandCamp doesn't take their usual cut

Our pond is properly full now...so where's my Grey Wagtail? #UKBirding (Friend on the other side of the village had one to her pond a couple of days ago!)

In panto, we're doing a Taylor Swift song (State of Grace) that you could say "interpolates" Rihanna's We Found Love, just a bit. So I've thrown rock shade on both of those by arranging my guitar part to be more Rush (Far Cry) and U2 (Still Haven't...) especially when we reprise it for the walkdown

It's panto week for me (Oh, yes it is!), so not lighting up #teamMoth I may do a couple more sessions before Xmas if the forecast minimum temp isn't too low.

As promised, "Life on the Other Side of The Pond" and how a Robin over here is a tiny Old World Flycatcher, but over there it's a beast of a Red-breasted Thrush #UKBirding #USBirding #NatureMatters

I lit up for just an hour or so after dark last night. A single Silver Y graced the trap with its presence, which was nice #teamMoth

Regulus regulus, the Goldcrest. Its scientific name a tautonym, both genus and species the same because this bird is the "type" of the genus, it's the first and defining species. US viewers will perhaps recognise it as a kinglet and it is, indeed, a kinglet type species. #UKBirding

A brave little moth kept Wogan at bay this evening #teamMoth

It's got a marking like this on each forewing, it's one of the The moths, you know it...

These look wonderful, I've ordered a pack of all the moths #teamMoth
The greeting cards are doing well @TreeStories exhibition- Christmas cards especially, no idea why😅

The mythical presence of the late, great Sir Michael Terence Wogan was felt in our Cambs garden last night, after many days, no weeks, nay months of awaiting his arrival #teamMoth

The current Mrs Sciencebase was not in the slightest bit surprised given that it persisted down all night

To be honest, the only sites I noticed as being down were my site, Cloudflare itself, and the sites I used to try and check whether a phone number was legit
November 18, 2025 at 5:11 PM
Disabled Cloudflare on my site hours ago...could be I'm the only live website right now...
