yeah, it's already been for a while, there were some threads on the forums (rip) about it

scripting is like my #1 feature request of all time because it would allow for some fun pipelines (blender-to-affinity, affinity-to-blender)

yep that app !

i def will have to dive in if much changed once i have the time, because working with linked images is pretty much the core of my compositing workflow so if they did something (i already know they moved resource manager to a different menu) i will be

question which one of the v1s were you using the most

i used adobe before, and the affinity app that felt the weirdest was always affinity photo, as it did have (v2 as well honestly) some really weird ux especially related to how it treated images vs raster layers etc

they already pretty much addressed that it's going the Canva Premium Shall Subsidize Affinity route

but that still leaves the potential mess in the future especially if they decide to go public etc

math is hard
How is Affinity now free?

i've tried it for a Bit as I'm in a state of chaos and will be able to make proper art with it later this month so only first impressions from me so far:

- live filters from afphoto good
- i will def need to adjust the ui as lack of colorful icons does cause issues
- business model is a giant hmm

yesn'tyes?

depends on what your flavor of bugs are, v2 for me hasn't been particularly buggy outside of some specific cases where it loves to fall flat on its face

the real reason for going v2 would be the new features ( VARIABLE FONTS and maybe some others )

the components will be scattered across different machines because some parts require more compute than my NAS has on its own (for example it doesn't just read the metadata, it uses some open machine learning models for musical analysis) and it's accessible via a web ui just like jellyfin
October 3, 2025 at 11:33 AM
no, it's a replacement for jellyfin
October 3, 2025 at 11:27 AM
i'm making it because i found jellyfin to be Not Good when it comes to music

Just having a teaser for that while leaving comms open clearly wasn't an option; plus you had to make the BRILLIANT choice to ditch the INDEXABLE AND EASILY SEARCHABLE forum and switch to discord

BRILLIANT

There's now people actively looking for alternatives because of this uncertainty. a MONTH long uncertainty for reasons completely unknown aside from the fact that Canva is doing a tour thing that lasts a whole month, ending with a keynote on Oct 30.
