It’s an interesting conundrum. I experience the same, but then, I’m asking very busy people to volunteer their time on behalf of a for-profit publisher, and in light of an ever increasing number of papers looking for reviewers in an actually shrinking sector (academics in the humanities). 🤷♂️

Well, all those students who have been robbed of humanities options in their vicinity have to go to whatever is left , if they are passionate about their subject.

Frankly, I doubt the claim about the need for the staggering percentage of accommodations. Just take a closer look at the qualifications of the folks handing them typically out. We have really begun to infantilize our students, deadlines mean nothing… until they hit the job market reality.
