I can't/won't try to speak to Italian politics.
IMO this is the same conversation being held elsewhere in the EU. She might have different reasons for saying what I think is right but it doesn't change it being correct. Countries need to operate inside legal frameworks. Otherwise they are thieves.

But until the laws allow countries, or blocs of countries, to penalize aggressor states, there's no disincentive if you're the bigger, more aggressive country.

From that perspective, I'm all for changing laws. How is it still ok at the current moment in time to invade another country on pretext to steal land (or oil *cough*)??

I don't like Meloni's politics, but she's right here. Find the instruments of law that allow the confiscation of funds and then, as a group, do it. Without the law, you're just a thief.

So there needs to be more than just a nod and a wink here. There needs to be a full consensus that a country's assets abroad are forfeit if they invade another country.
