As DHS announced Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago/IL Monday, Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss said he got a tip from state officials warning of raids this week.

I am not trying to minimize the change that would happen if the ICE budget passes, but just for context, the US already has among the highest global capacities for domestic policing and incarceration---like arguably an intensification of the existing police state and expansion to new groups
With this budget, ICE alone would have nearly as large a detention operation as all 50 states' prison systems combined. Bigger budget than the Marine Corps. Police-state levels of spending
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:
- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.
