So, the sale was made and Filmation was shut down in 1989 before the WARN Act took effect, which compelled employers to give 60 days' notice of closings. The Filmation library is now split among several entities, and many masters discarded after making PAL VHS releases.

Filmation was owned by Westinghouse, and they were looking to sell. Of potential buyers, co-founder Lou Scheimer thought Paravision International, an investment consortium led by L'Oreal, would be best. Unfortunately, he didn't know they only wanted their library and NOT the studio.

That, but I take it a bit further: it at least had to have a portion of it ORIGINALLY airing on Saturday mornings.

Some of those other cartoons DID air in reruns on Saturdays at some point.

I have a similar issue with everyone declaring ANY cartoon to be a Saturday morning cartoon. Many aired in weekday syndication and prime time. But, if it's a cartoon from the 60s-90s, they call it a Saturday morning one.
