Medical decisions MUST be religiously neutral. A patient wishing to consult with clergy before making a medical decision is one thing. Religious beliefs shaping or limiting best medical practices is another.

I’m a practicing Christian. I don’t believe in imposing my beliefs on others. This is doubly the case when it comes to healthcare.

This has not always been the case.

In 1963, my mother suffered a miscarriage late in her 4th pregnancy. Her Catholic ob-gyn performed a D&C at the Catholic hospital she was taken to. Had that procedure not been performed, my mother would have died.

More & more hospitals/healthcare networks are being purchased by or merged into systems owned by religious organizations. Thanks to the culture wars, religious beliefs rather than best science-based practices often dictate medical decisions, especially in regards to women’s healthcare.
