Ummm. I brought that up b/c it engages more w things that I know about. They actually jump over my period & concentrate on the “third stage” (Scientific revolution) pretty quickly. So that was the example that stuck in my mind. I did mention their discussion of Napoleon’s Egypt campaign elsewhere?

Yes. Of course, that the “global” goal was the British is obvious. I was just not sure if they had Egypt before Napoleon. My memory was that it was ruled by the Ottomans (yes, the Mamluks) and then it went to Muhammad Ali.

That’s what I thought. But I noticed that in the podcast, @michaelhobbes.bsky.social at one point says that Napoleon was trying to take Egypt “back” from the British, which did not sound right to me…
