I play music, or I make noises I like, there is usually a distortion point for smaller amps and such.
So I record the music first, then turn it up!
Even at home, I LOVE feeling the bass beat, so a lot of times I wear ear plugs at home, even.
And, decent ear plugs reduce volume, they don't block it.

Ear protection is always a good idea at concerts.
As an old fart with medium hearing loss, I'd rather wear ear plugs than hear buzzing and ringing for hours after.
Chances are, if you can feel the bass, it's too loud for "naked" ears.
