Above all, remember: I-apostrophe-s is not the way to show something belongs to you. The word you want is "my." Say, "My attorney's and my demands." Or: "My paramour's and my predilections." "Or: "My coworkers' and my walkout."

I've always struggled with these two words because they're conceptually related in my mind. If you're an early adopter, you adapt quickly to new technology. If you adopt a baby, you have to adapt to that baby's needs.

I play racquetball, and every time I want to warn my partner about a ball flying toward him on the court, I realize what a terrible command "Heads up!" is. "Head DOWN!" or "Duck!" or just "WATCH OUT!" make far more sense.

I have just spent a ridiculous amount of time looking into the etymology of "petit four." I'd always associated it with the four sides of a square—which makes no sense, since petits fours are three-dimensional. (1/3)

Someone asked me today whether "en dash" and "em dash" should be hyphenated. Bryan Garner *does* hyphenate them, but both Merriam-Webster and The Chicago Manual of Style do not.

Tees re: the recent categorization of em dashes as just an AI "tell" are available at shinyredcopy.com/store. #writing

If this makes you need to hear the Bobby Brown song, I'll put a link in the comments. 🎶

Relevantly, it occurs to me that "prerogative" is exactly as counterintuitive and weird as "prurient."
