Yep. It is one of my very favorite books of the year in a year crowded with favorites. Daniel Nayeri has taken his place on my Read Everything They Write list, too. Just amazing storytelling.

In a health care system where doctors are nowhere to be found the vast majority of the time, nurses are more than essential. They are a lifeline.

Just give me a heads up so I have copies in stock!

Shameless self-promotion opportunity missed - the shop is @bookpeoplerva.bsky.social - stop by if you find yourself in Richmond, VA!

I cannot keep this book on the shelf in my indie bookstore. A copy comes in and I sell it within minutes. I love pairing it with a traditional nursery rhyme book like the gorgeous one from @nosycrowus.bsky.social - perfect new baby gift. Looking forward to that middle grade novel...

Along with The Teacher of Nomad Land (with its shiny new sticker). Pacing that feels like part of the plot - moving with an intensity that matches the story - with no sacrifice in character development. Read also Finding Langston by Lesa Cline-Ransome.

Yes! The pacing is fantastic in that one. Loved it.
