Sprang!!!

Actually Sprang II, The Resprangining

Sprang in spring colours…

After this one I’m going to award myself basic knowledge status and try making some interlaced sprang or some sprang lace…

It’s pleasing to do something I hadn’t even heard of before and which works up so fast

First #sprang creation. A little pouch for my shed bars- once I work out what I’m going to use

Craft things I have learned today:
1. Sprang exists as a craft and history
2. You don’t need new equipment
3. You can experiment and get nice twists and shapes
4. My weird add colour/new yarn method worked
5. Balance is key
6. Plastic knitting needles are too weak for shed bars

I prefer pictures and text really, videos are either too slow or too fast- or usually both! I’ve already made my first mistake!

Bobbin lace, starting out. My first half stitch panel with charming error included(!)… #lacemaking #bobbinlace I bought the beginner’s kit from www.mainlylace.co.uk and so far the instructions are very clear and helpful.

There is much better lace out there, but I learned a lot doing it and my next will be better..!

I am learning to make needle lace… and being a miserable sinner I am inventing my own approach by experimentation instead of seeking the wisdom of my forefibres. The first lesson I learned is that you really do need sticky back plastic… Forgive my wobbly fills and uneven stitch counts.

Hyperbole and a Half is an actual genius. I wish she was actively writing but there is plenty online and in her fantastic books

Three stages, obviously all ongoing at once because why would you finish #spinning before starting to #crochet!!
I may be wearing this to a #wedding, if I like it when it’s done…

Like this (the shape is easy, look up biscornu)

I made a hat. Hairband, spare cushion cover (shaved off the bobbles with my new lint shaver) and some scraps. #wedding #recycling #scraps #makedoandmend #sewing #needlefelting

A bag for an upcoming special occasion
To vaguely coordinate with this fabric and some yarn I’m spinning for a while poncho shrug thing I’m still conceptualising.
Now to get me fit to wear it all!

Awake in the night for a while so I did some midnight crafting… this is normal. The basis is an old cardigan and spare cushion pad. The design is mainly odds of fleece left over from spinning #upcycling #sewing #needlefelting

As well as warping the loom today I have formulated a plan for my very cheap and boring stool-for-spinning. I shall be using only scraps and leftovers… like the stool which was bought for eldest’s piano before he got a nicer option

I need a week off now

Once again I’m pushing the boundaries and innovating in the field of stupid ways to warp a loom. No advice required- I know exactly in what way and to what level I’m unnecessarily making my life harder. #rigidheddleloom #weaving #handweaving #warping
