Social media and digital strategist working with foundations, nonprofits, and advocacy groups. When I'm not working or talking about politics, I'm probably in my garden, hanging out with my kids, or baking cookies.
I am really curious compared to the older cohort - I know kids that were 3-7 during the lockdowns were way more likely to have iPads in our lives, and to be on them a ton, whereas my 2020 baby didn't really have a ton of screen time difference for pandemic related reasons than his 2022 sister

And like - yes, I know people who do it. That's awesome. But I think there has to be some space between classifying people as urbanists/people who will live in cities no matter what, and people who are a lost cause and live in suburbs. There's so much space in between!

yup. and our kids school currently is the opposite direction of public transit, and my spouse works in the city, plus the start time of school + work don't align really at all, so there are a lot of factors that make it nearly impossible to navigate w/o cars.

Absolutely. I had one kid who refused to every go in a stroller, and it really impacted our transit decisions - plus with 2 under 2, a car made it way easier for all the drs appts yes but also just schlepping around. I think having one kid, or older kids, in a city is v. diff than young kids.

I love my garden very much! I do think that maybe as I age, that can shift into a community garden but we'll see. Still plenty of time to go until then!

My deepest hope for retirement is a small one-bedroom condo in the city, and a small place by the water in a walkable community, with a car merely for getting between the two, and going to drs appointments.

Would I be amenable to living in the city with minimal green space and having a car free lifestyle? Sure would. Do I like my current era of car reliance? No. But I'd also be inaccurate if I said I didn't see pros of the life I currently live.
