Tommy Lee Jones directed some standout neo-westerns like The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005) and The Homesman (2014). I could also watch oldies like Warlock (1959) or Vera Cruz (1954) on repeat or any old noir-influenced western.
Skipping the obvious ones...

Massacre (1931)
Robin Hood of El Dorado (1936)
Trail of the Vigilanties (1940)
Broken Arrow (1950)
The Naked Spur (1953)
Silver Lode (1954)
The Tall Men (1955)
The Tall T (1957)
The Hanging Tree (1959)
Junior Bonner (1972)
Saw a top 10 Westerns list in my feed, so thought I'd do one of my own.

Bought all of these for … $1.60 because prices don’t mean anything. All in beautiful condition. The lady at the till said “you will not believe our minimum threshold for tap.”

It always catches me off guard that the French idiom for “bullet points” (in a presentation) translates to “fleas”

Forget Shogun filming in Ucluelet and Vancouver, I want a prestige tv series about Chief Maquinna and west coast hijinks

We once had a landlord named Harry Rist. The previous tenants’ kid told me there was a ghost in the basement of that house.

It was just an accident (2025) by Jafar Panahi is now available to watch at home, I’d highly recommend it. It’s like watching some countries’ past, the present of others and maybe the future too.

It’s a bit sad that English language CBC’s NYE show has nothing like this “interpretive dance to things lost in 2025 like the carbon tax” from Bye Bye 2025. Two solitudes, man.

Went to a live reading of Victorian ghost stories + a screening of Kier-La Janisse’s “The Occupant of the Room” with Don McKellar which you can find on Shudder. Perfect way to kick the long evenings to the curb.
