The Maine Solar System Model is on Route 1, between Houlton and Presque Isle. The earth, planets, and sun are arranged along the route. The sun is at the University of Maine’s campus at Presque Isle.

It is both bizarre and magnificent to encounter a planet on the edge of a potato field.

I ordered a book that my institution’s (well-funded) library doesn’t have. The magic of ILL found it at WVU. The strength of the university system in the US depends on a network of institutions across the country. Without WVU and similar universities the quality of all our work and teaching suffers.
