I think most know at this point that the American myth of #Thanksgiving ultimately served to distract the public from genocide and destruction with a very strategic emotional hook— togetherness, gratitude, fantasy & food. Take note of how this conniving hook has been used and CONTINUES to be used.

Going through a museum exhibit in St. Louis, a major hub during westward expansion. I wasn’t prepared for the heartache of what I was about to feel. I had to sit down & hold space for the lump in my throat & tears in my eyes. I don’t know that we will ever fully get past the pain of all we’ve lost.

Social media is a fickle thing. For better or worse, it is a tool.

Indigenous people are pragmatic. We use tools. We evolve our cultures, exercise our values, build and sustain our communities, and strive to protect all that we hold sacred.

So, here’s to new tools, Indigenized. #IndigenousBlueSky
