Just learning that I am guilty of device hoarding because I only replace my devices when they break or I somehow lose them, like the time my cellphone flew off the roof of my car while I was driving on I-90.

Sorry, U.S. economy - I'm not going to change!

plus Diana Rigg as the Bond girl, though she's such a good character that referring to her as a Bond girl doesn't quite do her justice. The film makes great use of its Swiss Alps setting - lots of ski chases, plus a bobsled chase.

Watched the 1969 Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" - the first without Sean Connery, with George Lazenby as 007, his sole screen appearance in the role. Anyway, this is a pretty good Bond film that distinguishes itself by ending on a tragic note. There are some great stunts in this one,

Suddenly, one of my friends started to sing. "I can see clearly now, the rain is gone! I can see all obstacles in my way!"

And that's what we sang until we reached the visitor center.

Here we are, happy to have survived marching through the fog and rain to get to the top of the mountain.

Went to see "The Running Man," which I mostly enjoyed. The film works well as an action movie, but a little less well, especially in its final 30 minutes or so, as a topical examination of corporate power and how everything - including the reality show The Running Man - is rigged.

The fights aren't an afterthought, but they aren't necessarily the main thing, either. But there's plenty of drama in striving to be the best. And the film has a nice message about the importance of fighting oppression and selflessly training others to do the same.

36th Chamber delivers plenty of visually pleasing, well-choreographed action, set against eye-dropping backdrops. But the film is distinguished by its commitment to showing the discipline required to master kung-fu. This is a movie about hard work and focus.

Watched the kung-fu classic "The 36th Chamber of Shaolin," which brings a somewhat unusual approach to its very basic story about a man, bent on revenge, training for years to master kung fu. Training montages make up most of the film - and are arguably the most entertaining thing about it.

Watched the 1983 film "Love Letters," starring Jamie Lee Curtis as a young woman whose mother dies and leaves behind a box of love letters, revealing a passionate affair. Curtis then embarks on her own affair with a married man, and the film depicts the relationship's ups and downs.

Pulled out a mix CD of punk/hardcore music that my friend Dave made for me about 25 years ago.

NOFX, Face to Face, Social Distortion, Ten Foot Pole, Snuff, Voodoo Glow Skulls, etc.

I still enjoy this stuff. I also miss the days when people would spend hours making mix CDs or tapes for friends.

Watched the James Cameron action film True Lies, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis, which I had never seen.

Yes, there are some problematic elements, such as the cartoonish depiction of Muslim terrorists. But this is a pretty fun film - a zany marital comedy about a husband and
