Some places have such an intense sense of place that even the toilet paper reminds you where you are.

If you see this post something pink.

A pink derpy blep from Mimi (with my pink onesie in the background surely does the trick here.

that feeling when you're trying to plot something in R and it won't work- stackoverflow/the internet are no help, you update R, Rstudio, all the packages, your ios. Nothing works. Eventually you figure it out on your own, having wasted half the day. 🧪 👩‍🔬

Successfully shoveled our driveway after our first nor'easter. Re-evaluating my feelings on our long driveway though.

Missing the true abundance of persimmons and citrus that I left behind on the west coast. Crossing my fingers for more snow, winter time feels and gorgeous sunrises in the new year now that I am eastward.

Stoked to get my first letter from a pre-scientist a couple weeks ago just as I arrived at my new job. Sending off my response today! 🧪 👩‍🔬 🌏

photographic evidence of the last of the CA fresh masa used for breakfast tacos over the weekend. 😭

I'm gonna miss the Pacific Ocean. Dipped myself in one more time last weekend. Goodbye CA! Trying to focus on work while the tasks ahead loom large. Cross country move mixed with international holiday, buying a house and a professional conference requires many lists. It's gonna be a wild 6 weeks.

The fight for equitable water rights in California continues. Agribusinesses are suing local small-scale land owners so they can water their carrots day and night in a desert. www.standwithcuyama.com

went to my undergrad advisor's dry farm organic vineyard to help with harvest last weekend. Super grateful for his mentorship that got me thinking about agroecology/all the links between organisms early on. Saw a gorgeous clearwing snowberry moth just hanging out on the grape leaves. 🧪 🌏 🦋 🐝 🪲 🐛

Saw a cute Pterostichus running away from me this morning, then these adorable red Hershey’s kiss oak galls this afternoon and a giant dopey bumble bee buzzing past me by the train station. What a delightful invertebrate day.

First beefsteak tomato from the garden with friend squash blossoms and basil too. Also you can never go wrong with buffalo mozzarella. It’s a wild Friday 🌱

Oh Portland you’re great. It been sorta hot this week and I was riding my bike back from a conference (Ecological Society of America 2023) and there was a makeshift mister on the street. I rode my bike through it, naturally. 10/10

Our friend's kid gave us his Spiderman so he could go on adventures this week. I've been doing my best, but I don't think Mimi is very impressed.

Ah capitalism. We can't have universal health care or an honest reckoning with the structural racism in this country or an equitable distribution of resources, but a baby pineapple? Sure, yeah, that's on offer at your local supermarket. How much fruit could actually be in there?

Why can’t I stop taking pictures of Mimi with her tummy exposed looking ridiculous in the sun? I love her too much. Cats are the best after terrible weeks.
