To this day though if you bring up Xena the conversation is more about the subtext than it is about the fact that they have multiple onscreen highly romantic kisses between the female leads. I just think it's kind of a misleading word to use there, though I totally understand why it is used.

Like you can still call it subtext but I just am not totally sure it directly applies. In the case of Xena, a whole episode is about Xena getting a handwritten poem from Sappho to give to Gabrielle, I just... I don't think that's subtext. That's not like, secret code.
