I used to do Dutch to English translations for a record label I worked for and sometimes you just have to just come up with different phrasing or use different figures of speech. The one that always got me was trying to say "that makes sense." Dat maakt zin is funny.

When I was learning to speak Dutch I got some curious looks because you just don't say some things that are common in English. Not sure about this example, but could well be that "ik ben wreken" would just sound too silly to a Dutch speaker.

She did exceptionally well for such a gerrymandered district. I very much doubt a centrist would have been able to come close. And her statements about Nashville resonate with those of us who actually live here.
