I mean, identifying languages by flag symbols online is not saying "this country is the owner of this language." It's just an identifier that people who don't speak English can recognize?

They're so tricksy!
But English speakers have trouble with all "euil" words because we don't have an equivalent sound in English. And having it after the "r" that rolls in a way we also don't use, makes it extra hard.
We just want to pronounce all of the letters in the words! (Unless we don't) 🙃

"American English" is...English. As is Australian, Canadian, and about 50 other countries besides England. Dialects are not distinct languages and England does not own the English language. (No one does)

I get why you're not worried about this at all. But genuinely, thank you. As a jaded Christian with sometimes potentially heretical views, it's refreshing to hear someone confidently put all of this into words in a way I can rarely articulate.

Cooler by default. But I'm a Midwestern girl raised by deeply Southern parents, so ice chest is also correct for me. And I'm amazed that in my late 30s I'm still discovering vocabulary that I never noticed wasn't a part of everyone around me's normal dialect.
