The issue for me isn’t really the question of whether it was good (although considered from a Jewish perspective the late Middle Ages were demonstrably worse). It’s whether the label, and all it implies, are justified. I would definitely agree that Baghdad was better than Paris in 900

Glad to see the Sabbateans mentioned towards the end. On the surface, it's an ambiguous example for this. The vast majority of the movement dissolved, but a hardcore minority persisted for centuries. That doesn't help extreme readings of cognitive dissonance in either direction
