RLST 3280 Nightlives Same As: WGSS 3353, section 01 REGISTRATION NOTES Instructor Permission Required DISTRIBUTIONAL DESIGNATIONS This course can be applied towards the Humanities and Arts Yale College distributional requirement. COURSE DESCRIPTION Nightlives approaches scenes of queer nightlife from the early 20th century through the present to examine the formation of queer communities and subjectivities. We consider slumming, cruising, pulp novels, drag, leather, BDSM, dancing, and practices of bodily transformation to gain a sense of how queer people have found each other and what has happened because of it. Readings focus on the United States. Together, the class enter the tangle of desires and forces that characterize spaces where queers have gathered. We ask: What kind of lives does the night make possible? What provokes, builds, and disciplines queer life? Readings include an interdisciplinary and multi-genre assortment of historical and literary studies, life writing, theology, poetry, and fiction in order to approach a diversity of scenes that simultaneously beckon for participation and refuse capture. 1 credit for Yale College students INSTRUCTORS Samuel Ernest Linn Tonstad

Once he was tied to the stake, a Franciscan friar who was present, a saintly man,38 told him as much as he could in the short time permitted by his executioners about the Lord and about our Christian faith, all of which was new to him. The friar told him that, if he would only believe what he was now hearing, he would go to Heaven there to enjoy glory and eternal rest, but that, if he would not, he would be consigned to Hell, where he would endure everlasting pain and torment. The lord Hatuey thought for a short while and then asked the friar whether Christians went to Heaven. When the reply came that good ones do, he retorted, without need for further reflection, that, if that was the case, then he chose to go to Hell to ensure that he would never again have to clap eyes on those cruel brutes. This is just one example of the reputation and honour that our Lord and our Christian faith have earned as a result of the actions of those ‘Christians’ who have sailed to the Americas.

The Guardian reports that a flotilla activist witnessed Israeli guards beating Greta Thunberg and doing "everything imaginable to her" to make her an example. The activists are being denied "water, sanitation, medication," and legal representation.

I was told Kevin's doctoral gown—which he never walked with bc he died before graduating—was at his memorial service at Union. I couldn't find any evidence that he'd been awarded a degree posthumously, but today I found his AIDS quilt panel, and look what's there
