My understanding, and I'm new so this is just what I remember reading, is that they can work as a way to organise your work on your profile. So if you have #art in your profile and the same tag on relevant posts someone can click on art in your profile and search your post history for it.

Have you had any issues with disc rot, or even just scratched discs? I gave this a crack myself but my success rate for a working film was pretty low...
