But if American G.I.s found two wounded Germans in WWII, a commander wouldn't say "kill 'em all".
Even though bad things happen, soldiers are "supposed" to follow the Geneva convention, and they generally have.
Outside of Cheney, this is abnormal.

The origins are F'd up, but its purpose was noble both then and now. Lincoln made it a holiday during a time of unprecedented crisis to remind us all to be thankful for what we have because everything was so freaking sh*tty.

I think most (all?) normies know the Thanksgiving story is BS, so it's evolved into something new. It used to be "giving thanks for God (or something) giving us (the whites) this land yada yada." Now it's just about being grateful for what you have, and that's mental health 101.
