Before this, I was a reporter covering transportation and energy policy in DC and Boston.
The west rox neighborhood Facebook page is delivering today and I'm all in, I will be consuming all the lore

Gross framing from the NYT. I so badly have wanted to keep supporting the journalists there as the leadership and ed board flew rightward but this is just absolute politically-motivated garbage!

PS Here's a fun piece of information from the wikipedia page of her opponent, incumbent Bruce Harrell

I had to look, and yes Brookline is mentioned in the Epstein emails released this week. Harvard Professor (and Larry Summers wife) Elisa New, in making a pitch to Epstein for financial support for her PBS project Poetry in America, mentions interviews with "kids from Brookline High"

The concept that Mamdani's speech was "divisive" because he talked about using his power to achieve things and make change, especially in the face of a serial abuser opponent who basically built his entire campaign on gutter racism and threats, is so unfathomably stupid

(that's all in the last two days).

Here's another message in response to a community bulletin about SNAP benefits (??)

Even if the trend continues on pace from the first half of the year, 2025 would be the year with the second least homicides in Boston in the past decade, after last year, which set a record low for homicides by a huge amount, and 2023, which had also been a record low before 2024 came

Somebody posted this on the local neighborhood FB group and while it's Fox News and to be expected, need to call out how utterly mendacious this framing is.

EXTREMELY bluesky to not immediately grasp that this is tongue in cheek. Like come on

Notable in our story: After blaming the weather and publicly describing the incident as a "bump in the road," town officials privately started discussing changes to policies and worrying about whether they had enough funding to keep people safe.

I need to share some of these comments about West Roxbury secession (I'm not joking and neither was he) on the neighborhood Facebook page.

Local FOX affiliate: The same story as our hard-working tiny nonprofit @brooklinenews.bsky.social but with way less detail and nuance, and four days later (and no credit).

Find it hard to understand how some reporters can be so shitty about this. I guess you toss shame out the window to work in TV.

Beyond infuriating to watch this serial misinformation account again take my reporting and skew it beyond recognition to suit a right wing agenda.

There is absolutely no indication that the man arrested shot "at" the temple or targeted jews, and our story does not state that.

Asked to name three politicians he admires or agrees with, Zohran Mamdani starts with Boston mayor Michelle Wu

Heroic here from Robert Decherd, who fought off a lucrative bid for his Dallas Morning News from Alden Global Capital, which as the story notes has a pesky habit of throwing newspapers in the wood chipper for profit.

Great write up and thanks for sharing some good news, @joshuabenton.com

Somebody posted a screenshot of this and I had to go and check if it was real and it is! From 2022! The new york times declaring that there is a FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT not to be shamed or shunned. What on earth

Another very interesting piece of this poll (which was of Boston voters): pretty even split on bike lanes. 35% say there are too many, 35% say there are enough, and 30% say there are too few.

Another way of looking at it: 65% of voters are either satisfied with Boston's bike lanes or want more

The Free Press article going around today (making the argument that Palestinian kids who were starving were already sick) is completely aligned with a pro-Israel protester I recently interviewed who is a Brookline MA resident
