Yeah - I’m a bit better off in that mine is a mostly flat walk but likewise with Uber and cabs, unless you book it a day or so in advance. I’m on a branch line so to get anywhere useful it’s a 20-minute train journey and a change. Easier to drive 20 minutes to the nearest mainline station

I don’t choose to drive - I walk whenever I can, wherever I can - but cost and availability are prohibitive for most public transport round here. And I’m hardly in the middle of nowhere

Also, while I’m ranting, if fuel goes up everything that is delivered by road goes up too. It’s not just indolent drivers taking road trips for shits and giggles

Absolutely this. I’m done taking lectures about driving from people who have an alternative. If they had to walk 30 minutes to a station or had buses once an hour they might feel a bit different

I have to say she’s very very lovely and not at all a catastrophiser - she emphasised she thinks it’s a virus that I’m just too run down to shake off. But I’ve had a hoarse voice for 5 weeks now and that’s what’s worrying her/how she’ll get me to an ENT quickly if I’m not better in a week
