A little backstory: During one of her escapes from criminal responsibility, Ke'ra's ship crashed on the forest moon of Endor, where a group of Ewoks stumbled upon her, who subsequently mistook her for a prophecy-like "prophet" destined to bring peace between two warring tribes. Ke'ra spent nearly two years on this planet, helping the inhabitants and fulfilling the function of a "prophet" (meaning, she mostly accepted gifts and simply enjoyed life). Of course, she did help resolve the conflict between the two tribes and even considered staying on the moon of Endor forever, having become attached to the furry creatures. But... at some point, the Ewoks, according to their legend, had to kill the "prophet" through a certain ritual, otherwise her soul would be lost to oblivion. So Ke'ra quickly packed her things and left. 😂

What Ke'ra and Lyra are celebrating in this comic isn't the latter's birthday, but Dunefall—something like our new race's equivalent of Christmas, but a local harvest festival on their planet. On this day, the locals hold races across the desert plains, ride dormant sandworms (a risky and reckless endeavor, but the locals love tests of courage), and families (whatever they have) gather around the table and boast about how many times they've escaped death this year. This holiday is also considered special for children; when a child reaches six years old, they are considered "lucky" to have survived to that age on this planet, and they exchange gifts with their guardian (if they have one, of course).    Which is exactly what Ke'ra and Lyra do.
