It may well be more a US thing and, yeah, was used more for men in early usage. But certain circles of women, those of us just waiting for T2 version of Sarah Connor (but did already have Ripley.) did use it for women. I do think such use did ramp up right after T2 though. 😉

While she might have given the ultimate definition, the term "badass" most certainly DID exist in 1991....since the 1950s. I totally remember using it when T2 came out.
