History helps us grow from the mistakes of our ancestors but also serves to inspire us by showing the greatness humanity is capable of.

You can't have Black History Month without acknowledging the horrific injustices cast upon them - but it's also a celebration of their remarkable accomplishments.

1 in 3 U.S. teens will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from someone they are in a relationship with before becoming adults. If you’re in a similar relationship, know this: You are not alone. You deserve a healthy relationship. February is #TDVAM. Learn more at loveisrespect.org.

Are you asking yourself how to support & celebrate Black History Month, especially as someone not a person of color (POC)? Visiting Mead Library (or any local library!) to read up about Black historical figures or to find books & films by Black authors and filmmakers is a good place to start!

This year we celebrate 100 years of Black History Month. First founded as Negro History Week by Carter G. Woodson in February 1926, to honor the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, it has since evolved into a month-long celebration to preserve and promote Black history and culture.

Many professionals tasked with holding offenders accountable and/or helping keep victims safe have little training and few resources around recognizing and responding to stalking. SPARC is here to help! #NSAM2026

Stalking incidents add up – but only if we do the math. SPARC’s documentation logs (available in 10 languages!) can help keep track of every stalking incident to better illustrate the scope of the stalking, the timeline, and patterns. www.stalkingawareness.org/documentatio... #NSAM2026

Too often, we criticize victim behavior instead of putting the blame where it rightfully belongs: on the stalker. While safety planning and risk reduction can be practical for victims, nothing that a victim does – or does not do – makes them responsible for the stalker’s decision to stalk. #NSAM2026

Our last January Wishlist Wednesday, can you believe we're already one month through 2026? Spring and sunshine will be here before we know it! (*fingers crossed*)

Drop-offs are always accepted, but we ask they be made M-Th between 10am and 4pm to accommodate limited staffing outside of those hours.

Stalking cases can last from one afternoon to an entire lifetime. Stalking cases are dynamic; advocates and responders should prepare for the long haul and engage in ongoing safety planning and risk assessment as circumstances may change over time. #NSAM2026

Stalkers often go to great lengths to exert power and control over their victims – including threatening and harming others that the victim cares about. For many stalking victims, the fear doesn’t stop at their personal safety. #NSAM2026

Too often, stalking is minimized, normalized, and even romanticized instead of being seen for the criminal, traumatic, and dangerous behavior that it truly is. Help us spread the word on what stalking is (and is not!) by educating your community. www.stalkingawareness.org/awareness-ed... #NSAM2026

The casual use of the word “stalking” can dilute the seriousness of the term. When we hear innocuous behaviors described as “stalking” again and again, we may fail to identify stalking when it’s really happening and/or not respond with the urgency needed. #NSAM2026

Experiencing stalking is isolating. Most stalking victims tell a friend or family member about what’s going on before applying for a civil protection order, reporting to a criminal justice professional, or reaching out to victim services. #NSAM2026
January 24, 2026 at 8:00 PM
Victims often receive advice to radically alter their daily lives to stop the stalking. This can place the burden on victims to keep themselves safe and minimize accountability for stalking offenders. #NSAM2026

The mental health impacts of stalking can be severe and chronic, potentially lasting a lifetime. Mental health practitioners should be prepared to help victims cope and plan for emotional safety. #NSAM2026

Stalking is a public health issue! Stalkers create severe and chronic stress for their victims that often manifests in physical pain and illness. Medical providers should screen for stalking and help connect patients experiencing stalking to appropriate resources for safety planning. #NSAM2026

Stalking doesn't always look the same. It can take on many forms and can even look innocent to an untrained eye, but the reality for the victims is entirely different. Learn to recognize stalking behaviors by watching this video. youtu.be/njUwDLIvoQE?...

Stalking is traumatic. Many survivors become hypervigilant, always looking over their shoulders and wondering if and when the stalker might return. Some never feel safe again. #NSAM2026

There is no better risk assessment than a victim’s own perspective. Only stalking victims can decide how best to navigate their own safety. Victim advocates can help with exploring safety planning options and strategies. www.stalkingawareness.org/risk-and-saf... #NSAM2026

Research on stalking in the workplace is limited, but it’s clear that stalkers often invade every aspect of victims’ lives -- including employment. Many stalking victims are unable to safely or effectively do their jobs because of the stalker’s interference. #NSAM2026

Today we recognize the legacy and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr - a day to act on values of equity and community as we honor his dream of fairness, love, and equal opportunity. His vision of civil rights inspires us to finish his mission of creating a world built free from injustice & tyranny.

Many stalkers involve other people – like mutual friends, family, or colleagues – in their tactics, making it difficult for victims to know who to trust. youtu.be/njUwDLIvoQE #NSAM2026
