I've seen people suggest that sometimes those in positions of power intentionally misspell names as a way of asserting that? Like "oh you're not important why do I need to know your name?".
Not saying this is the case with your professor, but something to be aware of I guess...

I have always used [email protected] as my professional email with my last name in my signature and have people misspell at least one of the names about 70% of the time...

starting a new job recently (front facing customer service) I considered using a different name on my badge for privacy, but realized very quickly being called the "wrong name" constantly would drive me crazy. jokes on me I guess since people call us literally whatever they feel like anyway 💀
